Memory Quilts

I had this box of infant clothes that I just couldn't part with.  Sure, every once in awhile I'd get tough and decide that it was time to let go of them -- no one is going to wear them again, my kids aren't going to put 20+ year old "One-sies" on their kids... and I'd sit down to take one more look in the box.

As my fingers touched the fabric my heart would melt, "Where they ever this small?... oh he wore this the first time we saw Santa!" and before I knew it I'd be sorting through them saying "I can't get rid of this one!"  Until the tissues came out and the box went back, with me a little sad but mostly proud.  I did that, I had those babies and cared for them.  Who would have ever guessed that some tiny clothes are an emotional chord to infant hood and back to the badge of motherhood.

I can't get rid of them.

So.... rather that keep my hidden box in the closet, I thought I'd do something that would allow me to see them and enjoy them without the "What's in that box anyway?" comments from DH.

Ta-Da!  Make them into a quilt!

1.) Box of clothes

2.) detailed squares constructed

3.) Quilt!

(Full disclosure: this is made from a relatives hidden box of baby clothes.  To be perfectly honest I wanted to start on something I was not emotionally attached to!  It turned out so great that I'm okay to start on mine -- not that I may ever post it because I'm keeping the stains in for added sentimentality!)

Send me YOUR box of clothes -- the man's old concert t's, kid's shirts, see what we can come up with!
